Many people don't know the answer to the following question: "What is the difference between a web browser and a search engine?" Now I will try to explain this difference...

I have read in the internet a really good comparison to show this differrence: if you are sitting in your car, a web browser is like the windshield and the search engine is like the steering wheel.

A browser is a program installed on your PC locally (for example firefox, safari or internet explorer) that is used to access the Internet, to view what there is, it's the application that enables you to access the world wide web.

A search engine is a program which has reference data so that when you type in a phrase it gives a list of a websites that relate to the words you have typed in.

In conclusion, you use a browser to get to a search engine (you use Firefox to get to www.google.com where you then look for specific information).

GIMP 2.6

GIMP (short for the GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free sofware image editor similar to photoshop. It is primarily used as an image retouching and editing tool and is freely available to use in Microsoft's Windows, Apple's Mac OS X, and GNU/Linux.

It does not only helpo you do detailed image retouching and free-form drawing, GIMP can also do essential image editing tasks such as resizing, editing, and cropping photos, photomontages combining multiple images, and converting between different image formats. GIMP can also be used to create basic animated images in the GIF format.

GIMP's product vision is that GIMP is or will become a free software high-end graphics application for the editing and creation of original images, icons, graphical elements of web pages and art for user interface elements.

Lets see how this ends up but it's clearly a good start to get free software!

¡MY NEW LAPTOP!

Lately I've being thinking about buying a new computer for my university experience. I have a 6 year old windows xp pc and I've realized this does not fulfill my requirements. My current pc is much too slow and weak and it is beginning to work incorrectly.

Now that I have decided to change I have to decide to what to move on to, and here is where I have to be careful. I am at the point where I have chosen Mac instead of Windows but I still have to check the different computer specifications in order to enjoy my university experience with the appropriate technological tools.

I will probably end up with a Mac laptop like one of these:

iTunes!

iTunes is a digital media player application, used for playing and organizing digital music and video files. The application is also an interface to manage the contents on Apple's iPod, iPhone and iPad lines.

iTunes can connect to the iTunes Store via Internet todownload music, music videos, television shows, iPod games, audiobooks, eBooks, podcasts etc. It is also used to download applications for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad running. Most things you download from the iTunes Store have to be bought. However, you can directly download podcasts to your computer from the iTunes Store, free of any charge.

PODCASTS:
Users can subscribe to any podcast by entering its RSS feed URL, but also by browsing the podcast directory within iTunes Music Store. Once subscribed, the podcast can be set to download manually, or automatically — and as with other audio, content can be listened to directly or synced to a portable hardware device like an MP3 player.

Version 6 of iTunes introduced official support for video podcasting.Users can subscribe to RSS feeds through the iTunes Store or by directly entering the feed URL. Video podcasts can contain downloadable video files (in MOV, MP4, M4V, or MPG format).Downloadable files can be synchronized to a video-capable iPod, or downloadable files.

VOICE OVERS!

This new topic we have just began is about voice recording and its editing!!!
We will begin with a quick summary about voice overs, recordings done for publicity and entertainment in programs, radio...

One of the best voice over recorder is Joe Cipriano, a celebrity in the States. Voice overs consist in voice recording mixed with music and sound effects (horns, alarms etc.). These creations can be a business for persons like Joe Cipriano and Juanma Ortega. You can adquire these recordings with iTunes and most of them are totally free!!!! You can suscribe to their podcast and you wil know when they get new ones out.

AUDIO EDITORS:
I'll talk about some of the principal audio editors in the market:

-AUDACITY: designed fot windows based computers, completely free.
-GARAGE BAND: more advanced but there's a charge to be paid, comes with Apple computers.

MY VIDEO EDITING EXPERIENCE

Now I will proceed to explain how our video editing project began and how it turned out.

The idea of doing a gag was Pedro's and we decided to do it the stupidest way possible. We also decided to imitate Cuatro's "4th Millenium" and to have as our protagonist atypical basque "baserritarra".

The equipment used waas very basic; a mobile phone to record and that's all because Movie Maker would not accept the format. This was our main problem and we failed to solve it. I tried to download a video converter program and failed do so.

That's all I have to say about this project. It was a defficient work which I hope to never repeat.....
